a top fave from Taiwan: the rest stop

lady-corner.jpg

Yes, that's Wendy and Kylie. However, I hope you take note that they're standing in front of the "Lady Corner," which is basically filled with diet drinks. I love how Taiwan is so progressive.

Nia and Jason's wedding

I'm happy to say I made a miraculous recovery from my flu last week, just in time to make it eight minutes late to Nia and Jason's wedding on Saturday. I walked into the very quiet and echoey church, with my clippity-clop heels, right after the procession. Yes, I was embarrassed. Brett was part of the wedding party and didn't notice my tardy entrance, so I don't feel like a total jerk.

The reception was a lot of fun:

Nia-Jason-Chinese-garbI stole this from Heather's Facebook pics. Nia and Jason in custom-made, traditional Chinese garb. I love it.

Sheeny and Phe are smart to take their photo booth pics before they get too sloppy. I like their strategy. So there was a photo booth there, which was really fun. The machine prints out two copies. One copy for you to take home, and another copy for you to create a little scrapbook page for Nia and Jason. So here's...

I love these two! Not only are they totally talented, but they're super friendly because over the years, although I see them infrequently, every time I run into them, they remember me and are so amicable.

candy-bar.JPGCandy bar. Exactly what it sounds like. An open bar of candy. There were even little draw string bags so you could take the candy home.

photo-booth-girlsWe weren't totally stoked on this, so we decided to try again.

photo-booth-girls2-2Okay, we tired out really quick. First photo-booth attempt was better.

Before Video Killed the Radio Star

I don't know why, but I somehow got motivated to look up the video of one of my most favorite songs, "Please Don't Go" by KC & the Sunshine Band. Um, I'm rather creeped out. I still love the song with my eyes shut:

Who needs the gym?

It's 9:30 a.m.. My head hurts as it has all week because I've been sick. I hope for a speedy recovery because Jason and Nia's wedding is today and I prefer to have an awesome time, i.e. dance big.

I need to re-hem my dress because I hemmed it way too short last night (you can see my butt if I bend over at a 5-degree angle). I tend to do that because I'm 5'2" so I can pull off supershort hemlines but I go overboard sometimes.

I'm comforting myself with a second bowl of Trader Joe's Super Premium Ultra Chocolate ice cream.

I feel antsy to go to the gym or take a dance class but my aching body says "no."

I check out my Google Reader and see I have unread items from the Single Ape. As usual, Steven majorly impresses me from all the wit and wisdom he dispenses.

Then I watch this video he posted, and my cardio got going from all the laughing. I feel much better about not going out for my exercise.

Pictures from Desmond Dekker Tribute night

Thanks Candice Kortkamp!

light-bright-tvs-from-candice.jpgCandice's photo of the light-brights

In case you missed my previous post, I posted a video of The Sweet Hurt playing "Take This Away." This was my first vimeo post, and I hope to post many more. Here's what I wrote to accompany the video on the vimeo page:

The Sweet Hurt closed the Desmond Dekker Tribute show produced by Social Science Recordings. Unfortunately, I didn't have the mental wherewithal to record her cover of Desmond Dekker's "Honour Your Mother and Father" but at least the ol' noggin assembled together in time to record "Take This Away," The Sweet Hurt original. Here's Wendy and Gabe. I wish you could see Gabe's shoes. They're Reebok Pumps!

Gabe-Reebok-Pumps.jpgGabe can jump really high because he has the Reebok Pumps

schedule-2.jpgThe folks at Social Science Recordings were kind enough to post a schedule for the night. It's my fault you can't read this.

I managed to get there in time to watch my friends, the Monolators, but like I said earlier, I thought I didn't have my camera so I didn't take any pictures of the first half of the night. Well, Candice was there, and she took some AWESOME pictures:

Six bands later, I found my camera. Just in time for Obi Best:

The Sweet Hurt performs a hit

Social Science Recordings produced an awesome event, the Desmond Dekker covers night. There were 16 bands (14 bands?), playing that night. Each band started with a Desmond Dekker number, then closed with one of their own. Not a hard concept. Well, one of the bands got pushy and we were all like, no they di-int! Other than that, everyone was very respectful of the producers' way.

There aren't any pictures from the earlier part of the night because I couldn't find my camera (yeah, yeah, yeah...same old story) in my purse/abyss, but I managed to find the camera near the end of the evening, so I'll post those pictures tomorrow. Not now, because I'm sick. I shouldn't be staying up at this hour anyway. However, I'm excited to share my first vimeo uploadness, which is of Wendy and Gabe playing "Take This Away" from that night. I know I got a little wobbly in the first ten seconds, but I managed to keep things smooth for the rest of the song.
